A Night of Love, Brotherhood, and Honor at Cochichewick Lodge
On February 14, 2025, more than 30 Masons and their spouses gathered at Cochichewick Lodge in North Andover for a truly special evening. While the occasion was a celebration of love on Valentine’s Day, it also marked a significant milestone for the Brethren of Cochichewick Lodge, as one of their own—R.W. Shawn Bernard Smith, the current District Deputy Grand Master of the 12th Masonic District—was about to receive a distinguished honor.
With Valentine’s Day coinciding with the lodge’s regular communication, the Brethren saw it as the perfect opportunity to invite their supportive spouses and loved ones for a night of camaraderie and celebration. The lodge’s dining hall was elegantly decorated, setting the stage for what would be a memorable evening.
The highlight of the night took place in the lodge room, where a special presentation was made in recognition of R.W. Smith’s tireless efforts to revitalize Cochichewick Lodge. Having dedicated countless hours to renovations and securing rental agreements, he has played a crucial role in generating revenue to sustain the aging building. His commitment and leadership have left a lasting impact on the lodge and the Masonic community.
To honor his dedication, the Brethren of Cochichewick Lodge sought to present him with the prestigious Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal. However, since the award is traditionally bestowed by the District Deputy Grand Master, and R.W. Smith currently holds that office, a unique arrangement was made. With the blessing of Most Worshipful Grand Master George Forrest Hamilton, R.W. Thomas R. Berry, the most recent Past District Deputy Grand Master, had the honor of presenting the award to his close friend and Brother.
With many past recipients in attendance, R.W. Berry proudly presented the medal, recognizing R.W. Smith’s exceptional service and commitment. The room was filled with applause as the brethren and guests showed their appreciation for his hard work and dedication.
Following the presentation, everyone returned to the dining hall to enjoy a wonderful meal of Chicken Marsala and roasted potatoes. The evening continued with lively conversation and fellowship, as the Brethren and their loved ones reflected on the night’s significance. It was a beautiful sight to see the rooms of Cochichewick Lodge filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of Brotherhood.
It was truly a night to remember—a celebration of love, service, and the enduring strength of Masonic bonds.
